We honour Mandela

by building for the future

Libraries with Heart - Learning with Choice

From container libraries to digital classrooms, the Mandela Education Programme is quietly creating access to books, stories, and knowledge across South Africa.
We’re not pushing a curriculum — we’re building spaces where children can discover the world, in their language, at their own pace.

Who
we are

A Library is More Than a Room Full of Books

Two young boys in school uniforms are looking at and holding books, including a book titled 'Hidden Treasure' by C.B. Colby and another about making teddy bears and bear clothes. They are standing at a table with other colorful books.

The Mandela Education Programme is a small, focused initiative working to create meaningful literacy access in South Africa — without complication, politics, or noise.

We’re not here to impress donors or make headlines. We’re here to make it easier for a child to walk into a space, find a book in their home language, and feel like they belong there.

That feeling of being welcome, of being curious, of not being rushed or tested — that’s what drives us.

And that’s how learning begins.
