Phuthumani Primary School in Tembisa Goes Digital

Over the past four months, Phuthumani Primary School has been quietly undergoing a major transformation. A brand-new digital learning platform has been introduced across the school, giving teachers and learners the tools they need to step confidently into a tech-driven future.

This upgrade has been made possible through the long-term support of Sage, whose volunteer teams have been working alongside the school for the past two years. Their goal: not just to donate equipment, but to make sure the technology is used well and leaves a lasting impact.

The new digital system has been installed in the Foundation Phase and Grade 4 learning centre, with individual smart boards set up in classrooms for Grades 5, 6, and 7.

Grade 7 teacher, Patience Zineini, explains just how big the shift has been:

“The system has been life-changing for classroom delivery. The children take to it so easily. For the first time in our school year, we finished the curriculum before term-end — and still had plenty of time to revise.”

The handover event

Was attended by Deputy Principal Robert Lidoddvo and Yvette Chochoe from Sage’s CSR division, celebrating the milestone with teachers and learners who have already started embracing the new tools.

The platform includes the digital CAT syllabus funded by Vodacom, as well as Khan Academy’s advanced academics for robotics, coding, and additional learning programmes. These resources give learners the opportunity to build digital literacy from an early age — a skill set that will open doors far beyond the classroom.

With more than 1,600 learners set to benefit, 2026 is shaping up to be an exciting, future-focused year for Phuthumani Primary School.
