Triple Library Launch Brings Joy to Lephalale

October 2014 – Limpopo

Some days, generosity comes in threes. Thanks to ThyssenKrupp’s corporate social investment, three schools on the outskirts of Lephalale — Majadibodu High School, Batlhalerwa High School, and Mosima 2 Primary — each received their own Mandela Long Walk to Freedom Library.

Part of the Medupi Power Station community development initiative, the project also brought new boreholes and 60 vegetable tunnels to the area.

When the Mandela Bangle Programme and ThyssenKrupp team arrived at Mosima 2, they were met by singing children, decorated pathways, and even the Tribal Queen and Church Elders. TV personality Hlubi Mboya engaged warmly with the learners, while Dietmar Jurges, CEO of ThyssenKrupp South Africa, joined in the formal handover.

Each library was stocked with:

  • 600 books from The Rotary Humanitarian Centre

  • 250 magazines from Joe’s Magz

  • 200 readers in Sepedi from Qualibooks Naledi

The day ended with lunch, goodie bags for every child, and the knowledge that 1,200 more learners now had a place to read, dream, and learn.
